:Introduction

The idea of establishing a college of medicine in Thi-Qar governorate come after a ten-year formal dialogue and coordination between the ministry of higher education and scientific research and the ministry of health. This came after a decree made in 2002 to accept its first group in the academic year 2003-2004 but the break of war and what comes after it caused not to complete its parts. Thus, the program of establishing this college stopped. In January, 2003 another ministered decree gave the green light to open the college in its designed time.

The first undergraduate group admitted to the college was 50 students in the academic year 2004-2005. Then gradually raised the accepted group with the years to reach 150 students in the 2018/2019, in addition to post graduate students in higher diploma in family and community medicine, general surgery and emergency medicine. Eventually, our coordination with both Arabic and Iraqi counsels for medicine subspecialty yielded opening of board degree study in several specialty( internal medicine, general medicine, renal surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, dermatology, surgery of chest and blood vessels and subspecialty in cardiac diseases).
